Suggested day-by-day itinerary.

Day 1

Arrive at Cape Town International Airport where you will be met by a representative of Pinnacle Golf Tours. Collect your hire car and we will escort you to your magnificent Wine Estate Hotel where you will be staying for the next 5 nights. The details of your tour will all be carefully explained to you. You will receive all vouchers, tee times, directions plus three very important items. Firstly you will receive a mobile sat-nav unit for use in your hire car. It will be provided, together with a comprehensive list of the GPS co-ordinates for each of the golf courses, hotels, places of interest etc that you will visit during your holidaySecondly, you will receive an in-car audio guide to make your visit even more enjoyable & informative. Places of interest will be pointed out and their fascinating history explained. Thirdly, you will receive a local cellphone with the number of Pinnacle Golf Tours already programmed in. Remember we are on call to help you 24 hours a day. Optional, perhaps a short trip into Stellenbosch to explore this beautiful university town.

Day 2

Today you will play the magnificent Pearl Valley course. Spanning some 212 hectares of prime Cape Winelands real estate, Pearl Valley Golf Estates is a magnificent 18-hole Jack Nicklaus signature golf course. His unique touch is evident at Pearl Valley Golf Estates. This golf legend sees the Pearl Valley course as the sum of his knowledge and his experience. This spectacular course provides one of the top golf experiences in South Africa - and one of the best in the world. Pearl Valley Golf Estates was recently rated the '5th Best Golf Course in South Africa,' by Golf Digest and received a '5 Star Golf Experience,' by Compleat Golfer. To meet the 'Golden Bear's' uncompromising standards of golf course design and aesthetic beauty, a combination of the intense colours of the greens and fairways, together with the brilliant white river sand lining the bunkers was carefully planned, to make Pearl Valley Golf Estates the most visually spectacular golf course in the country. Bunkers on Nicklaus' signature courses are renowned for being shallow, long and relatively undaunting. Every hole is played against the spectacular backdrop of the mountains surrounding the estate and all are challenging due to the bunkers and fast greens. The course has been designed with the area's prevailing winds in mind; the winter northwesterly and the summer southeasterly. All par 3s and par 5s play in different directions, ensuring that the same conditions are not experienced too many times in one round. The 4th is the 'Signature' hole and one of the most scenic of par 3s.

After your golf, why not visit one of the wine farms in the Paarl region, possibly the Nederburg Estate. We will gladly recommend the best options.

Day 3

Your golf today is at the De Zalze Club, co-designed & managed by Spier Estate. Designed by Peter Matkovich, who has made the most of the stunning setting and created a course that places a premium on accuracy. The course has an excellent mix of parkland holes with its main defences coming from the water features on several of the holes as well as the oak tree lined Blaauwklippen River which winds its way through the golf estate and comes into play at various intervals. The golf course, open since 2000 with the brand new Cape styled thatch clubhouse [opened December 2003] is an exciting addition to the group of international standard championship golf courses recently built in the Western Cape region of South Africa. The De Zalze Golf Course has already hosted a number of championship events and together with the Spier resort was the host venue for the 2006 World Amateur Team Championships, attracting teams from approximately 80 countries around the globe. This Golf Estate has proven to be one of the most sought after golf estate real estate investments in South Africa, having achieved record sales since 2002.

After golf, perhaps visit the enchanting village of Franschhoek, founded in 1688 by French Huguenots. It is a scenic gem, renowned for its spectacular beauty, superb Cape Wines & world class restaurants. The locals believe their special valley of Franschhoek is one of the most beautiful in South Africa, possibly even the world. We invite you to come and see and experience it for yourself. Why not stay for dinner at the town's top eatery, Le Quartier Français. Tucked away in secluded gardens it offers a delightful haven of peace and tranquility. A total gastronomic experience can be enjoyed here. Bistro lunches on the terrace and award-winning cutting edge cuisine by Margot Janse and her team in the Tasting Room. Acknowledging its outstanding reputation, The Tasting Room has been voted "The Worlds 50 Best Restaurants 2005, 2006, 2007 - Restaurant Magazine UK | Top 100 Hotels - Travel and Leisure 2007. Booking is essential. Let us know if you want to experience this outstanding restaurant.

Day 4

Another leisurely breakfast followed by the beautiful scenic coastal drive to Hermanus. If you are holidaying from May to September, you may be lucky enough to see Hermanus' most famous visitors, the Southern Right Whale. These magnificent creatures come here to breed. We then take the short drive to the magnificent Arabella Golf Estate, to play your third round. Voted by Compleat Golfer magazine as the top golf course in the Cape Province, it is also featured in Golf Digest's USA's Top 60 courses outside of America in 2007. It is a classic parkland course having spectacular views across the Bot River lagoon and across the Kogelberg mountain range. Awarded Five-Star Golf Experience for the first time in 2002, the course is complemented by a luxurious clubhouse with bar and halfway house, as well as a fully stocked pro shop and excellent practice area. The Arabella Golf Club has been the annual home to the Nelson Mandela Invitational charity golf tournament from 2003, hosting the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Samuel L Jackson, Ronan Keating, Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Tim Clark, Lee Westwood and Sam Torrance. There is no doubt that a round of golf here ranks with the best experiences anywhere in the world.

After the golf, relax in the luxury of the clubhouse or perhaps explore the fascinating harbour town of Hermanus.

Day 5

Today you experience your fourth round of golf at the famous Erinvale course. This beautiful Gary Player designed championship course, host of the 1996 World Cup of Golf & currently home of the SAA Open will enchant you. Situated at the foot of the Helderberg Mountains with magnificent mountain views & a panoramic vista over False Bay.

Following golf, possibly relax on the beach at nearby Gordons Bay, or take a slow drive back to Stellenbosch, where tonight you could have an incredible African experience at Moyo, in the grounds of the Spier Wine Estate. Dining under the starlit African sky, Moyo is unlike any other restaurant. Bedouin tents and Gazebos are placed throughout the garden and create an almost nomad African Village. Watching over this Moyo Village is a 300 year old Oak Tree, a testament to Africa's greatness. Growing from the earth, pulsating water features crafted from copper are living works of art and skillfully constructed tree houses raise from the ground and take to the tree tops - an unparalleled dining experience. The buffet span is an incredible 25 metres. The flavor of freshly cooked potjies, tagines and grilled meats fills the air with aromas of cumin, paprika and rosemary. African musicians complete the scene. A magical evening.

Day 6

Option 1 - A day of leisure. Check out of your hotel and head for Cape Town. Depending on the weather, you should make your first stop Table Mountain. The best views of Cape Town are seen from the top of Table Mountain. The Cableway takes you to the summit in five minutes and the cable car's rotating floor ensure that all passengers get a 360 degree aerial view of the city. Carefully laid out paths & walking routes enable you to experience the thrill of Cape Town.

Following this, why not take a drive to Cape Point and see where the Atlantic & Indian Oceans are alleged to meet. Stop at Boulders Beach on the way to see the penguin colony that has made this beach home. You will be heading for the magnificent 5 star Steenberg Hotel on the beautiful Steenberg Golf Estate, where you will spend the next four nights.

Option 2

Check out and head for your African Safari. In approximately 2 hours you will be welcomed to the Aquila Private Game Reserve. Since the 4-star Aquila Private Game Reserve was founded, its ethos and that of our team of dedicated staff, has always been to educate guests on the importance of wildlife conservation, how it affects us all and what we as individuals can do to protect it and indeed the environment. Aquila is not yet another luxury game reserve and lodge, its primary purpose is to offer an educational experience to all who visit in the hope that knowledge will enrich our understanding of the importance of living in harmony with Mother Nature.

Over the years, Aquila Private Game Reserve has gone to massive efforts and expense to source and re-introduce wildlife into the Cape region so that local residents and visitors alike can benefit from the same and therefore we are proud to offer an authentic African Big 5 safari for the first time in 250 years. We are especially proud of our efforts of reintroducing our lions and lion cubs that we saved from a doomed 'canned lion' fate. Aquila's lions thrive in their massive sanctuary while enjoying the breathtaking terrain of mountains, valleys, rivers and kloofs. In another of our conservation efforts, we currently offer our visitors a complimentary educational introduction to our cheetahs, highlighting the plight of the free ranging cheetah and their critically diminishing numbers. It's important to note that our cheetahs were captive bred and not 'born free' nor do they form part of Aquila's game drive and the experience is strictly controlled and in the interest of cheetah survival worldwide. Guests however are not allowed to directly interact with the cheetahs but are given a comprehensive talk on the plight of these beautiful cats.

Your safari itinerary will be as follows:-
  • 08h00: A welcome cocktail will await your arrival if you are there at 8am !!
  • Between 08h00 and 09h00: You can enjoy a full course complimentary buffet breakfast served in the restaurant.
  • 12h30: Complimentary lunch will be served
  • 14h00: Check in at Aquila Private Game Reserve.
  • 17h00: Depart for a two to three-hour game drive with one of our experienced rangers. Visit our world-renowned Khoi San Bushman rock art sites.
  • 19h00:Return to the lodge and restaurant for an authentic African dinner or traditional South African braai (barbeque) in our lapa (weather permitting) and a peaceful nights sleep

    Day 7

    Option 1

Following a delicious breakfast at the Steenberg Hotel, you will play your fifth round on the Steenberg course. It was designed and built by one of South Africa's leading golf course architects, Peter Matkovich. The golf course has been designed to take full advantage of natural features and hazards. The 18 hole championship golf course meanders leisurely through the Steenberg vineyards, pine forests and gentle waterways. The course features four distinct areas: Wetlands, Parklands, The Cape Flats and Fynbos. With five different tees, the course can be enjoyed by all, from championship to junior level. Many golfers envy the superb condition of this soft spike course and it is widely renowned for having the best greens in Cape Town. There are also a number of practice areas, including a driving range, chipping area with sand traps and a large putting green. The first six holes of the course meander through gentle, manicured parkland where, in some instances, tee shots will be played off raised tee boxes amongst the vines. The course then moves into the wetlands, which includes the testing par-three 7th hole played to a green surrounded by water. It then enters the Heathland section where white sands "islanding" the fairways are a natural hazard. The round is completed under the splendour of stately oaks.

Following your golf, perhaps continue with your exploring of the Cape Peninsula. Possibly a drive along one of the most spectacular roads in the world, Chapmans Peak Drive.

    Option 2

Awake (early!!) in the African bush. 06h00: Early morning game drive, coffee and rusks served en route. 08h00-09h00: Breakfast is served 10h00: Check out of accommodation at Aquila Private Game Reserve. You will now be heading back to Cape Town to the magnificent 5 star Steenberg Hotel on the beautiful Steenberg Golf Estate, where you will spend the next three nights. You will play your fifth round this afternoon on the outstanding Steenberg course. It was designed and built by one of South Africa's leading golf course architects, Peter Matkovich. The golf course has been designed to take full advantage of natural features and hazards.

    Day 8

Today you will experience the Atlantic Beach course. Enjoy a Championship Links style Golf Course with its traditional style and an ocean breeze off the ocean. On calm days you can play your normal lofted shot or on windy days you can use the firm turf to play low running shots, beneath the wind. Either way, we are sure you will enjoy the challenge around this beautiful 18 hole course. The unsurpassed views of Table Mountain across Table Bay are out of this world. Atlantic Beach Links Golf Courses have been built with a serious commitment to the preservation of the indigenous fauna and flora. Compared to other golf courses in Cape Town, on completion of your 18 holes around our course you will agree that it is the combination of good golf in unsurpassed natural surroundings that make Atlantic Beach a unique golfing experience.

Following your golf, you could continue exploring the Cape Province.

    Day 9

A day of leisure - your choice. We could even organise another round for you. Maybe you could visit Hout Bay with a boat trip to Seal Island. Another possibility is a trip to Robben Island to discover where Mr. Nelson Mandela was imprisoned and gain an insight into our fascinating Rainbow Nation. The standard tour to Robben Island is 3.5 hours long, including the two half-hour ferry rides, departing from the Waterfront. Maybe you would prefer to spend time at the famous Cape Town Waterfront. You might like to drive to Camps Bay for lunch and gaze out at the beautiful palm-fringed beach or maybe take a drive along one of the most scenic roads in the world, Chapmans Peak Drive.

    Day 10

With lovely views of Table Mountain from most holes the championship course of the Royal Cape Golf Club offers a beautiful setting that will make your final round truly memorable. Royal Cape Golf Club is a true championship course having hosted the South African Open no less than ten times and the SA Amateur Championships eight times. The most recent SA Open held here was in 1996 and was won by Ernie Els. Extensive work was done on the greens in 2000 to bring them up to the USGA standards and the course today is a fine test of golf and worthy of its championship rating. Essentially it is a very flat parkland course, well maintained and a pleasure to play with lovely views of the surrounding mountains. But don't be deceived by its apparent easiness.

The fairways are narrow, demanding extreme accuracy off the tee, wayward shots can be heavily penalized amongst the trees and the greens are well bunkered. There is also plenty of water on the course, notably at the corner of the 3rd, 4th, 5th and also the 14th, 15th and 16th. The 4th and 15th are beautiful par-3's, the 15th in particular requiring a finely judged shot over the water which encroaches right up to the edge of the green. The most difficult holes are the par-4 3rd, at 435m the longest two-shotter on the course, and the par-4 14th, a dog-leg right played into the teeth of the prevailing south-easter and with water guarding the right front and side of the green. Following your golf you will be driving to Cape Town International Airport to begin your journey home. Thank you for booking your tour with Pinnacle Golf Tours. We do hope to see you again. Why not plan your next tour to include the famous Garden Route? Have a safe journey. Bon Voyage.
